Concept design for a residence for a landscape architect on land alongside the Westport River, MA. The design guidelines called for a house which allows nature to walk through. The scheme pulls apart the different program elements along an axis parallel to the water’s edge. (The notion of a house composed of indepedently programmed volumes is embodied in the traditional additive New England farmhouse architecture.)
A series of decks connect these separate ‘rooms,’ allowing one to engage with the outdoors at several different levels, offering views of the Westport River from all spaces. Trees (the aluminum rods) weave between these volumes and decks, creating privacy and bringing nature closer to the house.
This was, essentially, a three hour exercise. But it came out cool, so I've put it up!
